How long is a long time to launch a site?
I registered the domain SharonHayes.com October 29th, 2000. (I actually picked it up after a former Canadian Member of Parliament with the same name let the registration for it lapse.) This means as of today – September 29th, 2011 – it’s been 10 years and 11 months since I’ve had the domain and plans for putting up a personal site. I’m sure this is not a record. I’ve owned domains myself for longer than this without a site. But still… it was time. 🙂
Although I have had a simple landing page on it, I’ve never had a full blown website or blog before now.
The more visible I have become in social media, the more I am having people ask me where is my personal site. Since I run actual companies – offering real services – it’s just never been a priority for me to get this site live. I’ve also been busy with one project after another on the business side and loving living life off of the computer.
But it’s time. I’m making some major changes in what I’ll be doing in business. I’m no longer offering marketing consulting/strategy services. I’ve sold off the division of my company which handled campaign management for emails, social media accounts, etc. After over 20 years of a lot of the same stuff, I want a change. I want to be able to help and impact more people.
It will be a fun ride ahead and I hope you’ll be a part of it.
